Statistics: Crop production for the main crops in 2020
• The cultivated area in 2020, compared to 2019, decreased for cereals for grains, oilseed crops, dried pulses, potatoes and vegetables.
• Compared to the previous year, the crop production decreased in 2020 for cereals for grains, oilseed crops, dried pulses, vegetables and it increased for potatoes.
Year 2020 compared to 2019
Cereals for grains
The area cultivated with cereals for grains decreased by 2.4%, while the production decreased by 37.6% compared to the previous year, due to the pronounced drought in the main periods of crop vegetation and lack of irrigation, which led to low yields in most crops. In 2020, the area cultivated with maize grains represented 48.6% of the area cultivated with cereals for grains and the area cultivated with wheat, 39.5%, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Dried pulses
The production decreased by 48.3%, while the cultivated area by only 0.9%.
Oilseed crops
The production decreased by 35.1% and the cultivated area by 3.6%. Decreases in production were registered for sunflower (-41.9%), soya beans (-26.4%) and rape (-8.8%).
Potatoes
The cultivated area decreased by 2.4% and the production increased by 2.1%, compared to the previous year.
Vegetables
The production decreased by 0.4% due to the decrease of the cultivated area compared to the previous year.
Year 2020 compared to 2019
Grapes
In 2020, the production of grapes decreased by 4.1%, due to the decrease of the yield per hectare (-3.5%) compared to the previous year and also due to the cultivated area (-0.6%).
Fruit bearing tree plantations (fruit bearing orchards)
The fruit production in orchards increased by 29.6% compared to the previous year, due to the increase of the cultivated areas and of the yields per hectare.
Romania compared to some Member States of the European Union in 2020
• For maize grains, the first place for cultivated area and second for production, after France;
• For sunflower, the first place for both cultivated area and production; • For wheat, the fourth place for the cultivated area after France, Germany and Poland and the sixth place for production after France, Germany, Poland, Spain and Italy.
• For potatoes, the fourth place for the cultivated area after Poland, Germany and France and the sixth place for production after Germany, France, Netherlands, Poland and Belgium.
