The PSD's motion of censure against the Orban Government will be read on August 20

The reunited bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate decided on Monday evening that the motion of censure of PSD against the Orban Cabinet be read in a reunited plenary that will take place on August 20 and will start at 12.00. The vote and debate on the motion will be set at another sitting of the reunited leadership of Parliament.

The lawmakers of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) lodged a censure motion against the Government, the acting Chairman of the PSD, Marcel Ciolacu announced on Monday. "Today we filed a censure motion against the most disastrous Government Romania has had in the last 30 years," the PSD leader said.

According to the document dubbed "The PNL [National Liberal Party] government - from pandemic to rampant bribery pandemic", the government's representatives have broken all the rules imposed on citizens following the pandemic with the novel coronavirus.

"The nine months of PNL governing can be synthesized in the following phrase: The PNL Government - from the pandemic to generalized bribery. Wealth in the pockets of PNL clientele, poverty in the pockets of Romanians. They had parties in the Government building, while Romania was entirely shut. They put their family in positions and defrauded the state budget under the cover of the pandemic," Ciolacu, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, claimed.

According to him, "for all the bombs placed, at Unifarm they have to answer not only politically, but criminally."

"For the moment, acquisitions worth 140 million euro are being today investigated by the DNA [National Anticorruption Directorate], yet another 700 million RON were drained from the state budget only in the emergency period. A generalized robbery, as the report of the Court of Accounts shows, masks which were not conform and overpriced and, worst of all, ventilators and protection equipment which was never delivered, although it was paid for," added Ciolacu.

He also claimed that "in order to enrich themselves for three generations," the current power "has endangered the health of Romanians, the only ones to pay a huge price, while those governing thought themselves above the law and stole using ten hands."

"A government that steals from its own people must go. A government that pushes Romania towards economic disaster must go. A government that fraternizes with criminals, but brings in the fines on Romanians must go. A government that does not respect the laws in force and does not increase allowances, salaries and pensions must go. This motion is supported by nearly one million Romanians that want their rights to be respected. For that reason, here, in Parliament, we will say stop to the robbery and incompetence of the National Liberal Party," said the interim chair of the PSD.
Ciolacu appealed, in this way, to all parties to show responsibility and vote this censure motion, because "Romania needs a competent government."

"Romanians need a government that is their partner, a government that inspires trust in traversing the economic and health crisis. PSD has all the necessary solutions. We have a coherent plan of measures which can be implemented rapidly by a transition government, both for managing the pandemic, as well as to save the economy, proposes a government program for the medium-term. PSD has always demonstrated that it knows how to build, how to bring economic growth and to consolidate the level of income. We will restart the economy, we will increase purchasing power and we will redo the jobs destroyed by the PNL government. Just as in 2012, in 2020 we wish for the law to be respected regarding increasing allowances, pensions and salaries for teachers and wages not be cut," said Ciolacu.

Marcel Ciolacu also said that "this government only knew how to steal and to chase mayors through counties." "And we have an uncontrolled economic crisis. Figures show that at this moment Romania loaned 1,000 euro per minute. I believe this government should go home. It's a patriotic act to vote for this motion. It will not create chaos," he emphasized.

În turn, national leader of the National Liberal party (PNL), Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, said on Monday that the censure motion the Social Democratic Party (PSD) intends to table is "irresponsible action." "Things never turn out as planned. This motion is another irresponsible action on the part of PSD," Orban said in a press statement.
