Agriculture : Romania organises this June the 36th Congress of International Organisation of Vine and Wine

Romania in the period June 2-7 this year, at the Palace of Parliament of Bucharest, will organise the 36th edition of the Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), through the National Office of Vine and Wine Products (ONVPV), an institution under the coordination of the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry (MADR).

Delegates of 44 countries will attend the OIV Congress and General Assembly and will discuss the theme: 'Vine and wine between tradition and modernity,' and topics related to the developments in the current viticulture and oenology, with a focus on maintaining the tradition in various areas of the globe.

The Congress will be carried out in sections, viticulture, oenology, economic and legal framework, safety and health.

Romania has been a member of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine since 1927. The Congress will also elect a director general of the organisation, the announced candidates coming from Germany and France.The current Director General since 2004 is Italian Federico Castelluci.

Romania is placed tenth worldwide and fifth in Europe, in terms of vine cultivated areas.Over the past five years, the Romanian vine and wine sector accessed all European funds through the Support Programme for the Vine and Wine Sector (42.1 million euros per year), the most visible effect consisting of replanting 19,766 cultivated hectares with vine. The programme will also continue in the period 2014-2018.
