Annual inflation was minus 1.6% in June
The annual inflation was minus 1.6% in June, on significant decrease from 1.2pct in the previous month, and monthly inflation reached 2.95pct, according to the data released on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
"Consumer prices in June 2015, compared to June 2014, were lower by -1.6pct, measured through the CPI [consumer price index] and by -0.9pct, measured through the Harmonized Consumer Price Index," the INS informs.
In June 2015, the share of the goods and services that saw a decrease in their prices compared ro June 2014 is 36.2pct, and those that rose from 0 to 2.5pct hold a share of 42.9pct. The goods and services whose prices went up by more than 2.5pct hold a share of 20.9pct.
June's inflation will show a drop in prices of over two percentage bridge from May, and the annual index will be at minus one per cent, but it is important for the population not to perceive this decrease as deflation, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Governor Mugur Isarescu told on July 7 the symposium dedicated to marking 10 years since the launch of the denominated leu.
In his opinion, if the data in July, August and September show decreases in prices similar to those in June, the BNR must have measures to counter the effects of such a situation.
