The rate of natural increase continued to be negative in May 2015
Romania's rate of natural increase continued to be negative in May 2015, (5,605 persons) after in April it was also negative (8,055), reveal vital data released on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
In May, the births of 14,877 children were recorded, 301 less than in April 2015. The number of persons whose deaths were recorded in May was 2,0482, 2,751 less than in April 2015.
The natural increase was negative (an excess of deceased persons over live births) both in May (5,605 persons) and in April (8,055 persons). The number of deaths of children under 1 year of age recorded in May was 128, a decrease of 8 compared to April 2015 (136 deceased persons under one year).
As many as 10,887 marriages were recorded at Registrar Offices in May, 3,258 more than in April 2015, along with 2657 divorces formally pronounced by final court decree and in accordance with Law No 202/2010, 100 more than in April.
The number of live births fell by 225 in May 2015 compared to the same month of 2014, and the number of persons who died was smaller by 602 than in May 2014.
The natural increase was negative both in May 2015 (5,605 persons) and in May 2014 (5,982 persons). The number of children under one year who died in May 2015 was smaller by 19 than the one recorded in May 2014.
The number of marriages decreased by 415 in May 2015 compared to the same month of the previous year. In May 2015, 334 more divorces than in May 2014 were formally pronounced by final court decree and in accordance with Law No 202/2010.
