British, Canadian and US tourists, drawn by Ice Hotel at Balea Lac

The only ice hotel in Romania and one of the few in Europe, the one located at over 2,000 metres altitude in the Fagaras Mountains, at Balea Lac, Sibiu County (central Romania), for now draws more foreign tourists than Romanian, with the British being among the most courageous this year, hotel marketing manager Adelina Grigoriu told Agerpres on Tuesday.

'16 tourists from the UK spent the Christmas evening in a cold place, in the rooms of the newest Ice Hotel built in the heart of Fagaras Massive, at Balea Lac. These days until the New Year's Eve we have very few rooms available and for the New Year's Eve the hotel is fully booked,' Grigoriu said.

She said that most of the tourists wanting to accommodate in the Ice Hotel were British, Germans, Canadians, but also Americans.

50 British tourists have already booked rooms at the Ice Hotel at Balea Lac in Romania, a part of them coming not only to get accommodated and eat in the restaurant with ice tables and chairs of the hotel, but also to participate in an unusual wedding.

Officially inaugurated on Christmas day, in the few days past since, the Ice Hotel at Balea Lac has already been visited by hundreds of tourists. Those not daring to get accommodated here can visit the original hotel every day, between 9.00 and 17.00.In January, at Balea Lac, a tree-room igloo and an ice church will be built, the only ones of the kind in Romania.
