Foreigners working in Romania to be granted 5,500 work permits in 2012
The Government decided the number of work permits that can be issued to foreigners who wish to work in Romania can be next year in number of 5,500, with a special focus on high-qualified workers, according to a decision published in the Official Journal.
According to the government resolution, although the maximum number of work permits issued to foreigners who are citizens of non-EU member states remains the same as in 2011, a new category, of authorizations granted to high-qualified workers, will be set up in 2012. Maximum 1,000 such documents will be available for these employees, this number being included in the total of 5,500.
On the other hand, the number of work permits for permanent workers dwindles from 4,000 down to 3,000.
The document stipulates the issuance of 7,000 authorizations for workers on secondment, 100 for seasonal workers, 200 permits for workers on probation, 300 for sportsmen and 100 nominal work permits.
The Ministry of Labour explained the provisions of the above-mentioned draft law by invoking the need to bring foreign experts to Romania, given the emigration of Romanian experts abroad.
In addition, the possibility of bringing foreign experts to Romania for the implementation of EU-funded projects is also taken into account.
The Government predicts it will collect 1.1 million euros to the state budget, following the issuance of 5,500 work permits, considering the cost of 200 euros for each permit, except for the authorizations granted to students or seasonal workers, who must pay 50 euros.
