Bucharest to host matches of the 2020 European football championship
The Romanian capital will be prepared to host matches of the 2020 European football championship, Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu stated in a press conference on Friday.
'UEFA officials said from the very beginning that it would be good to have [a number of parking spots equivalent to] one quarter of the number of places on the arena. I don't know if we will reach this quarter, but probably once the Multisport Hall is completed we will go towards another parking of 1,500 more places. I hope we satisfy the parking area so that Bucharesters are not disturbed too much,' the mayor mentioned.
According to Oprescu, Bucharest already proved its hosting capacity in 2012, with the UEFA European League final.
Bucharest is one of the 13 cities designated to host matches of the final tournament of the 2010 European football championship, the Union of European Football Associations announced on Friday.
The National Arena of Bucharest, a facility with 55,600 places, should be the host of four matches - three in the groups phase, and one in the round of 16 of the competition.
