Ponta: In five years’ time Romania’s union to the Republic of Moldova is likely to happen within the boundaries of the EU
The union of Romania to the Republic of Moldova within the EU is likely to happen in less than five years, stated Victor Ponta. At the same time he considers that on a short term it is unlikely an effective union to happen between the two states as this should have the agreement of the two peoples.
‘On a short term I will not militate for the union, as I think it is not possible to have a union between Romania and the Republic of Moldova against the will of one of the two populations on either banks of the river. And I think ‘ let’s take them by force’ as the Soviet Union did, harms the idea of pro-Europe. But the union within the European Union, I was very clear, can be done on a short term’, the premier said for Adevarul live.
He restated that one of the main objectives of the foreign policy is that the Republic of Moldova be a member of the European Union by 2019.
Asked if he will militate for better relations with the Russian Federation as possible president Victor Ponta showed that Romania could not have a separated policy from that of European allies and Euro-Atlantic ones.
According to him, the Strategic partnership with the US is by far the most important achievement of foreign Romanian policy over the last 15 years. “I don’t think that somebody will change this reality in 15 years’ the head of the executive said.
