Central European Bank does not agree with BNR cut in salaries
The European Central Bank negatively acknowledged the government proposal to reduce salaries of the BNR employees by 25% as they would break the basic rule of central banks- directly financing the fiscal deficit. Even so, the government did not intend to give up the proposal, trying to force the BNR employees to “ donate” a quarter of their income. They did not agree and say they would refuse to sign the additional contracts. “ I cannot manifest my solidarity by donating money to a government insufficiently fiscally rigorous.” sources within BNR said.
« As regards us, we are an independent institution. We are not budgetary related and we don’t use budget funds. We give 80% of the profit to the state and I think the things should stop here. BNR is the institution which gathers very qualified people who need not be demotivated by cutting their salaries only because you could not find solution to finance your budgetary deficit. If I am required my agreement to donate to the budget, I won’t accept” a BNR official said.
