Geoana : The government has no majority, PSD and PNL are obliged to propose another government
The president of the Senate, Mircea Geoana stated on Wednesday that the vote on Tuesday on the censure motion showed that the Boc government has no majority in the parliament, PSD and PNL being obliged to propose another government. Geoana said that the rejection by the parliament of the motion could be considered a victory for Traian Basescu, but it is a defeat of the premier Emil Boc and the executive.
« In all democratic countries, when the government loses the majority it is time to go. The Boc government has no majority in the parliament. Hence the need of another government, based on another majority, with another governing programme, with other anticrisis measures and other solutions to continue the agreement with IMF” he added.
The former social-democrat leader said that, under these conditions, the opposition PSD and PNL is obliged to propose another majority and another government. « If PSD and PNL succeed in proposing something coherent and there is an explicit majority around this construction, not even president Basescu, so used to clinging to power and not sharing it with anybody cannot refuse the nomination of a government the opposition might propose. It was the PSD and PNL leaders’ obligation to start the discussion” Geoana said.
