Chamber of Deputies adopts government program forbidding fragrance cigarettes

The Chamber of Deputies adopted on Tuesday the draft law which forbids cigarettes with fragrance capsules in the filter and the sale of menthol cigarettes as of 2019.

When the law comes into force, 30 days after its publication in the Official Monitor, fragrance tobacco products will have to disappear from the market. Producers will have to manufacture cigarette packages according to the new rules., said Magdalena Ciobanu, Health Ministry expert at the end of the Juridical Commission meeting which debated the government draft law.

She said menthol cigarettes will be sold until 2019, while packages observing old rules can be sold until May 20,2017.

The draft law adopted on Tuesday establishes conditions for the manufacture, presentation and sale of tobacco products according to directive 2014/40/EU of the European Parliament and Council of April 3, 2014 on the manufacture, presentation and sale of tobacco products and the abrogation of directive 2001/37/EC and delegate directive 2014/109/EU of the Commission of October 10.2014 and amending annex II of directive 2014/40/EU,by establishing illustrated warnings which must be used on tobacco products.
