DefMin Motoc: Romania is available to host the SEEBRIG Command

National Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc attended on Monday and Tuesday, in Italy, the meeting of the South-East Europe's relevant ministers, where he proposed the South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) affiliation to the Multinational Division South-East Command (MND-SE), a release of the National Defence Ministry (MApN) reveals. 

"During the sustained interventions, Minister Motoc underlined the Romania's determination to play an active role within the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) and to contribute to all the ongoing projects. In this context, the Romanian minister proposed the affiliation of the South-Eastern Europe Brigade to the Multinational Division South-East Command, in order to instruct the personnel and to ensure the participation of the SEEBRIG Command in the joint exercises with the MND-SE, which are conducted according to the NATO's standards," the press release points out. 

The meeting was attended by ministers of Defence from the SEDM's member states and from the Republic of Moldova, which is an observer, as well as representatives of some regional security organizations. 

Moreover, Mihnea Motoc confirmed the initiation of the selection process for the nomination of the future Romanian Command of the SEEBRIG, for the period 2017-2020, when Romania will hold this position. 

In addition, the minister presented Romania's availability to host the SEEBRIG Command according to the provisions of the Agreement on the Multinational Peace Force South-Eastern Europe (MPFSEE) and reiterated Romania's commitment to continue the development of the "Female leaders in the Security and Defence area" project, taking into account that Romania is a leader-nation until the end of 2017. 

The minister had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Italy, Roberta Pinotti, from Turkey, Fikri Isik, and from the Republic of Moldova, Anatol Salaru. During the discussions, topics regarding the stage of the bilateral relations with Italy, Turkey and Moldova were approached, as well as matters of common interest on NATO's agenda in the context of the discussions with the Turkish partner, respectively regarding NATO and the EU with the Italian partner. 

The event marked the 20 year celebration since the establishment of the SEDM, a regional initiative which contributes to peacekeeping and strengthening the relation of good vicinity and cooperation between the states in South-Eastern Europe by providing a military-political dialogue platform and through the involvement in projects which have practical applicability in the regional security and stability area.
