CLDR:Romania is last in EU's innovation index

Romania is last in EU's innovation index in spite of having won the highest number of medals in inventions and innovations, said on Thursday Sever Avram, Executive Chairman of the Association of Local Communities on the Danube River (CLDR) at the sixth Danube-Black Sea Innovation Forum on 'Necessity and Opportunity of Integral Innovation in the Danube - Black Sea Basin.'

"Why? Because innovation does not overlap invention. Inventions abound in Romania, but very few are taken over and applied in the production flow. The rift is, on one hand, on the legislative level, because we do lack a regulated financing of innovation by development regions. Instead of being interested in creating infrastructure, in the administrative framework for innovation, along with universities and chambers of commerce, the regions are completely decoupled from this process," explained Avram. He pointed out that a law still lacks on public-private partnerships.

He added that the forum, which "prefaces the Danube Financial Dialogue in Bratislava," connects the concept of innovation with the concept of Danube strategy.

The Forum at the Parliament Palace is aimed at promoting and demonstrating the benefits of transnational cooperation in Danube region under the aegis of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, coagulating the most advanced mechanisms and methods by creating "communities of practices," internationalization of clusters, industrial revival of the most promising branches and setting up a hub of integral innovation among the actors in public and private sector of the Lower Danube and the Black Sea coast, the organizers said.
