The draft law for the amendment and completion of the law 273/2004 regarding adoption, which includes the simplification of the procedures as well as a leave of maximum one year for the adjustment between parent and child, was passed on Wednesday by the plenary of the Deputies’ chamber.

‘The draft law comes to the help of the abandoned children and the families who want to adopt (…). This draft law wants to contribute to the increase of the number of adopted children to offer a chance to be raised in the safety and love of a family. In Romania, for many years, the number of children abandoned in the system is stable, about 60,000 and over 1,000 children every year are abandoned in hospitals, out of whom, until last year on 30 September only 3,800 were declared adoptable and only 562 were adopted, last year in Romania and 11 children were adopted internationally’ said the liberal deputy (PNL) Florica Chereches.
The draft includes the granting of a period of one year for the adjustment between parent and child which is given for children of over two years old. The leave is offered at the request of the parent, and the alimony is worth 3.4 ISR ( the reference social indicator) per month, namely 1,700 lei per month.
For the children under two years old the rights included are those for the alimony dedicated for the raising for children.
