Israel, the special guest at Bookfest 2016, 1 - 5 June, Bucharest
Israel is the guest of honor of the eleventh edition of the International Book Fair Bookfest which will take place at the Romexpo Pavillion in Bucharest between 1-5 June 2016 where almost 200 publishing houses get ready to bring to the public over one million volumes.
Under the slogan ‘ Israel – Never Stop Dreaming’ six Israeli authors come to Romania to take part in public lectures, book launching, debates and round tables.
The list of guests of honour of the edition of this year of the Bookfest Book Fair includes names such as Zeruya Shalev, considered to be one of the most important Israeli writers of the moment, Fania Oz-Salzberger, the daughter of the famous Amos Oz who signed together with her father the work translated with Humanitas ‘ the Jews and the words’, a fascinating dialogue between the daughter who is a historian and the father who is novelist, starting from the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, Meir Shalev, appreciated writer and journalist, whose volume ‘ Russian Novel’ is on the list of the best-sold five Israeli novels of all times., Dror Mishani who combines in his novels criminal investigation and suspense, Gil Hovav, media personality and well-known culinary journalist,who delivers culinary seminarsand demonstrations in the world by combining Israeli gastronomy and fabulous family stories and personal experience and Rony Oren, unique artist, one of the most beloved and appreciated cartoonist in the world, who creates movies or books for children as well as for adults who keep their playful spirit.
The Israeli exhibition as guest of honour of the Book Fair Bookfest, 11th edition will be placed in Pavillion C4 where those interested will be able to find a varied offer of books in Hebrew, as well as Romanian editions of well-known Israeli books.
‘Israeli literature is a mixture of the old language Hebrew which was revitalised with the Israeli people, in the 19th century. Now the language is rich, vibrant, and the style of the Israeli authors changed from themes which belong to ideologyto individualisation, while the authors experimented with new narrative forms, at present being noticeable the tendency of writers to a sociological approach, detective stories are written even books for children. The themes of contemporary Israeli literature present the fluid social reality around us’ – Tamar Samash, the ambassador of the Israeli State in Romania said.
Another novelty for this edition is the visit of an important delegation of German editors who are expected to come to the Bookfest 2016 for professional meetings with their colleagues from Romania. The visit is part of the project Romania – guest of honour at the Leipzig Book Fair 2018, coordinated by the ministry of culture. The professional meetings are programmed in the first days of the Book International Fair 2016.
The International Book Fair Bookfest is organised by the Associatin of Editors in Romania, under the aegis of the Federation of Editors in Romania with the support of the ministry of culture.
