EU will contribute with 726 million euros to construction of Craiova-Pitesti express way
EU will contribute, through the cohesion policy, with 726 million euros to the construction of Craiova-Pitesti express way. The Commission approved Tuesday, March 23, the construction of an express way between Craiova and Pitesti. EU will contribute, by means of the cohesion policy, with 726 million euros to set up a new connection of 121 km, between the two towns. The project, which is part of the trans-European transport network, includes the construction of two lanes for each direction, 10 connection sections and 75 bridges or passages, EC announces.
The new express way will improve traffic in the area, where the average speed is now 60 km/h and the number of deaths is 5.8% over average in Romania. Lower travel time between Craiova and Pitesti will reduce transport costs and will increase economic efficiency of road network in Romania.
Eliminating traffic on long distances in the built areas will reduce congestion, pollution, and the number of accidents and will improve the people's quality of life. The road will create temporary jobs and should stimulate trade in the area, thus generating economic development and increasing access to jobs.
The project should be completed until the end of 2023.
