In May 2016, the unemployment rate was estimated at 6.6%

The May unemployment rate reached a seasonally adjusted rate of 6.6 per cent, after a 0.2 percentage points increase from April, the National Institute of Statistics announced on Friday.
The number of unemployed persons 15 to 74 years old was estimated in May at 581,000, up from 573,000 in April, but down from 622,000 in May 2015. By gender, the unemployment rate was higher among men (7.3pct, as compared to 5.6pct for women).
Unemployment among adults (25-74 years old) stood at 5.5pct, with 6.3pct for women and 4.5pct for men; this age tier contributes 78.3pct to the total unemployment rate.
