Romania hails the entry into force on 1 July 2016 of the EU and EAECA Agreements with Moldova and Georgia
Romania's Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) hails the entry into force on 1 July 2016 of the European Union and European Atomic Energy Community Association Agreements with Moldova and Georgia, as all the internal procedures of the EU have been carried out, based on the completion of the ratification process by all the 28 EU member states and by the European Parliament in 2014 and 2015.
According to a MAE release,, the entry into force of these agreements is a significant political moment in the relation of the EU with its most committed partners in the eastern neighbourhood, and it also represents the achievement of a priority goal of Romania, actively and constantly promoted within the European Union.
The MAE congratulates the authorities and citizens of Georgia and of the Republic of Moldova for this success, and it encourages the continuation of the efforts to implement the agreements and to advance the necessary reforms for the European course of these countries.
The MAE also expresses its hope that constructive solutions can be found on a European level to allow the entry into force, as soon as possible, of the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine, in accordance with the commitments undertaken on a European level.
The Association Agreements with the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, including the commercial side (theDeep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, DCFTA) were applied provisionally since 1 September 2014. As regards Ukraine, the provisional application of some important parts of the Association Agreement began on 1 November 2014, and the provisional application of the DCFTA started on 1 January 2016.
