President Iohannis: U.S. a guarantor of Romania's security
The United States are for Romania a guarantor of its security, a sound ally and a reliable partner, tied by a strong friendship, shared values, principles and interests, and a strong commitment to the unity and strength of the Euro-Atlantic family, President Klaus Iohannis said in a speech at the reception hosted on Friday by the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest to celebrate America's Independence Day.
The U.S.-Romania Strategic Partnership, which has grown stronger over its history of nearly two decades, is expected to become wider and deeper, "to generate economic opportunities for the citizens of our countries," the President said.
He also insisted on the unprecedented level of the bilateral cooperation in defence and security: "We have carried out together the strategic project of the missidle defence system in Devesely, a significant contribution to our and NATO's shared security and an undisputable benchmark of the excellent cooperation between Romania and America."
He added that "a successful political and military relation cannot reach its full potential without an equivalent of similar ambition in economy and trade."
The cooperation with the United States for the rule of law has been very important for Romania's substantial progress over the past years in consolidating its judiciary system and fighting corruption, Iohannis mentioned.
