Iohannis participates today in the European Union's Summit in Rome

President Klaus Iohannis participates on Friday in the European Union's Summit in Rome, where a declaration will be adopted regarding the future of the EU. At the beginning of March, Romania has sent the EU member states a document where it details its stance regarding the EU future and the preparation of the Rome summit.

The document says that "the main objective of the Declaration in Rome should be to convey a clear message that the EU member states must stay united, coherent and committed to working together for a strong Europe, based on values and inclusive, that is capable to win back the confidence of the European citizens," the Presidential Administration informs.

Romania is pleading for a stronger, more consolidated and more cohesive European Union, and one of the basic principles of the Declaration in Rome should target the structure's unity, cohesion and sustainability.

"The fact that there is no alternative to a European solution that is placing the stability of our economies and societies and the prosperity of our citizens at the core of the Union's actions, must be clearly expressed," the document adds. Another principle in the said document is "no steps back."

Furthermore, listed among the principles that are to be included in the Declaration in Rome are avoiding fragmentation and an integrated approach to the principle of solidarity and ensuring convergence.
