President Iohannis, UK Prime Minister Theresa May had a phone conversation
Romania's President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday had a phone conversation with UK Prime Minister Theresa May over the March 22 London terror attack.
"Romania's President has condemned in harsh terms yesterday's terror attack in London, before the Houses of Parliament, the symbol of British democracy, and expressed Romania and the Romanian people's full solidarity with the UK. President Klaus Iohannis also expressed condolences on his behalf and on behalf of Romania to the families of the victims, while wishing speedy recovery to the injured," the Presidential Administration reported on Thursday in a press statement.
Ambassador of Romania to the UK Dan Mihalache stated on Thursday that the Romanian woman injured in the London attack underwent "a complicated surgery," and her condition is still critical.
"Colleagues with the Consular Department went to the hospital. Currently, the health condition of the two Romanians injured is as follows: the woman is in a relatively critical state, because she suffered multiple lesions and has a problem with of her lung functioning. This night she underwent a complicated surgery aimed at removing a blood clot. Fortunately, she handled this intervention well and was moved to another hospital, [...] for investigations related to the condition of her lungs. The woman is intubated. Her state is still critical, but we hope she will overcome it. The man is in a good condition, he fractured his foot. But he is in psychological shock because of the situation," Mihalache mentioned.
According to him, the two Romanians were on a trip to London, the man celebrated his birthday and they were to be married.
"We will permanently communicate with the doctors and we hope that this critical state will be overcome. We are in dialogue with the authorities," the Romanian Ambassador added.
The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry informed on Thursday morning that two Romanian nationals were injured following the attack on Wednesday after-noon in London. One of them is still hospitalised in a serious state, and the other, who had been slightly injured, has been discharged,.
On Wednesday, a man hit pedestrians with a car on Westminster Bridge in London, and the he managed to stab a policeman and tried to enter Parliament's building, before being shot to death by the security forces. The stabbed policemen died because of the injures, same as two of the pedestrians hit by the attacker's car.
Romania's Intelligence Service (SRI) has announced it is increasing security at the British Embassy in Bucharest as a standard mandatory procedure in the aftermath of Wednesday's London terror attack.
"This is what we aim to do. We have not necessarily taken additional security measures, but we increased security as a standard mandatory procedure," say SRI officials.
