The talks between European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Romanian President Traian Basescu will focus on the EU-Republic of Moldova relations, as well as on Romania's progress under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) and Romania's Schengen Area entry bid, the Commission spokesperson Mark Gray told Agerpres on Thursday.According to this source, Jose Manuel Barroso and Traian Basescu on Friday will attend a working lunch, followed by a press conference at 13:30 local time (14:30 Romania's local time).

'The talks will focus on the relations with the Republic of Moldova, as well as on Romania's progress under the CVM,' Mark Gray said. The agenda of the talks will also include other issues such as the freedom of movement and the Schengen file, according to the EC spokesperson. Last but not least, the two officials will discuss the economic situation and 'the way in which structural funds can help the Romanian citizens get jobs and contribute to growth,' Mark Gray said.

The Romanian leader paid a visit to Brussels last month, on Jan. 16, but he then had only a meeting with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, because of the packed schedule of the Commission head, who was paying a visit to Spain.

The agenda of the Basescu -Van Rompuy talks at that time included Romania's Schengen Area entry bid, the Republic of Moldova's association to the European Union and the development of the Southern Corridor of natural gas supply to the European market.
