Over half of the unemployed from six EU states among which Romania are at risk of poverty
Over half of the unemployed from six European states among which Romania, are at risk of poverty, according to the data corresponding to 2016 published on Monday by the European bureau for statistics Eurostat.
The data show that 51.4% of the Romanian unemployed are exposed to poverty, and at the level of the EU the highest risk is in Germany (70.8%) and the lowest in Cyprus and Finland ( both 37.3%).
As a whole for the EU 48.7% among the unemployed with ages between 16 and 64 are at risk of poverty, this percentage being five times more as compared to the risk registered in the case of employed people (9.6%).
In the last 10 years, the proportion of the unemployed at risk of poverty increased continuously, from 41.5% in 2006 to 48.7% in 2016.
The people at risk of poverty are those who live in a household with income under the threshold of poverty, which is established at 60% of the national average of the available income.
High levels of risks are registered in Lithuania (60.5%), Latvia (55.8%), Bulgaria (54.9%) and the Czech Republic (52.3%).
A level of 50% of the unemployed exposed to poverty is registered in Sweden (50.3%) as well.
In exchange, less than 50% of the unemployed risk poverty in Cyprus and Finland (37.3%), France (38.4%) and Denmark (38.6%).
