President Basescu sworn in for second tenure
Romanian President Traian Basescu on Monday was sworn in for second tenure, during a ceremony before the plenary session of the Senate and the Deputies Chamber. The President took the following oath: 'I swear to devote all my energy and to put all my skills to work for the spiritual and material prosperity of the Romanian people, to observe the Constitution and the laws of the country, to defend democracy, the fundamental rights and liberties of the citizens, the sovereignty, the independence, the unity and territorial integrity of Romania. So help me God!', Traian Basescu said.
Traian Basescu is the 3rd President of Romania after the Revolution of 1989, following Ion Iliescu and Emil Constantinescu. His new tenure is the 5th tenure of a Romanian President 20 years after the Revolution in December, 1989. Moreover, he is the first head of state having won two consecutive five-year tenures in the post-communist Romania.
There also attended the swearing in ceremony the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church Daniel, members of the Government, of the Constitutional Court, the Chair of the High Court of Cassation an Justice, the Ombudsman and also chief of several diplomatic missions accredited in Romania. Moreover, there was also present the family of the President - his wife - Maria Basescu and his daughters - Ioana and Elena Basescu, Agerpres reports.
