Romanian Defence Ministry signs contract for 227 Piranha 5 armoured transporters
The contract signing ceremony for the purchase of 227 Piranha 5 armoured transporters from the American company General Dynamics will take place at Defence Ministry headquarters on Friday, according to a ministry press release.
The Romanian government adopted, on November 29, the decision for first stage of the essential supply program “Armoured transporter for 8x8 troops”, for the supply of 227 Piranha 5 armoured transporters and the initial logistic support by General Dynamics European Land Systems - Mowag GmbH.
The armoured transporter for 8x8 troops is a transport means of the infantry group and support structures, needed to carry out specific actions by the Romanian Land Forces.
According to the Defence Ministry, this vehicle ensured increased mobility and the right protection of personnel during specific missions, in any relief area, regardless of time, season or weather conditions.
The present war supply of the Romanian Army is outdated, both technologically and in point of technical-tactical characteristics, such as speed, mobility, personnel protection, observation possibilities, orientation, communications, and so on.

Iveco defence Vehicles Company announced on Thursday the signing of twp contracts for the sale of military logistic vehicles in December 2017, La Repubblica newspaper and Today.it website wrote.
The first contract stipulates the delivery of 280 multirole military vehicles to the German army.
The second contract was signed with the Romanian Defence Ministry which ordered 173 logistic military vehicles to be delivered in 2018 by the Italian company Iveco.
The contract refers to 6x6 logistic military vehicles for equipment and personnel transport, equipped with trolley and which can be transported by Lockheed C-130 Hercules airplanes.
