Eurostat: Romanians rank second for poverty risk or social exclusion in 2012
In 2012, the Bulgarians were the most exposed European citizens to poverty risk or social exclusion -49%, and were followed by the Romanians -42% and Latvians -37%, according to a Eurostat opinion poll released on Thursday.
Last year, 124.5 million people (24.8% of EU population) were exposed to poverty risk or social exclusion, on the rise against 2011 -24.3% and 2010 – 23.7%, when reducing the number of persons affected by poverty is a priority of Europe Strategy 2020.
The Bulgarians were the most exposed European citizens to poverty risk or social exclusion in 2012- 49%, followed by Romanians -42%, Latvians – 37% and Greeks – 35%.At the opposite pole we find the Dutch and Czechs with 15%, Finns -17%, Swedes and Luxembourgers – 18%.
As for people facing major material shortages, the Bulgarians also rank first -44%, followed by Romanians -30%, Latvians and Hungarians -26%, while only 1% by Luxembourgers and Swedes, 2% Dutch, 3% Danes and Finns.
