Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi to tour Canada
Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi will be on an official visit to Canada, from 22 to 26 March, at the invitation of his counterpart Lawrence Cannon, the ministry informs in a press release sent on Monday..
The Canadian tour of the head of the Romanian diplomacy will include meetings with Canadian high officials, in the federal capital, Ottawa, and visits to Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
Teodor Baconschi will have talks in Ottawa with Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon, with Minister of Defence Peter MacKay, Minister of International Trade Peter van Loan, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Jason Kenney, Senate Speaker Noël Kinsella and House of Commons Speaker Peter Milliken.
The talks with Canadian high officials will provide the opportunity for resuming the high-level bilateral dialogue and exploring ways to consolidate the good relations Romania traditionally maintains with the Canadian state. To be approached are the prospects of bilateral cooperation, notably in the economic field, as well as such topics as lifting the visa requirement, regional cooperation, the goals the two states share as to cooperation in a multilateral format, and other aspects pertaining to areas of mutual interest.
The Foreign Minister will meet with representatives of the Romanian community and of the Romanian-language media during all the four segments of his tour. Moreover, in Toronto, Teodor Baconschi will attend an event marking the establishment of the first Romanian language lectureship in Canada, at York University.
During the Foreign Minister’s Canadian visit, the third Consulate General of Romania in Canada will be inaugurated in Vancouver. Deputy Mircea Lubanovici and Senator Raymond Luca were invited to attend the ceremonial inauguration.
