Nomura Study : Romania is threatened by vulnerability to food crisis

The Romanians are the Europeans most exposed to hunger, and globally they are among the first 12 populations threatened by the food crisis, the Nomura analysts consider, the most important agency of brokerage and economic consultancy in Japan.
Adrian Radulescu, state secretary in the ministry of agriculture, denies the possibility : « the gentlemen in Nomura should care about their own situation. They should have placed Japan first » Radulescu said, for the « Gandul » daily.
According to the study entitled « Europe will function – on condition of some structural and banking reforms », realised by Nomura analysts and Llewellyn consulting agency and published at the beginning of March, Romania will have in 2025 a GDP per inhabitant lower than Serbia, country which is below us today, and sensibly lower than Bulgaria. Belarus and Kazahstan started to « overcome us » and in 2025 their GDPinhabitant will be much over Bulgaria and comparable to Lithuania, Estonia and Hungary. Nomura nd Llewellyn rely their analysis on the official Eurostat data.

In September, Nomura placed Romania on the 12th place, from the point of view of vulnerability to food crisis. This happens, although our country occupies 25th place as agricultural land and theoretically it could feed over 130 million people.

Bangladesh, Maroc, Algeria, Nigeria, Liban, Egypte, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Hong Kong, Azerbaidjan and Angola occupiy the first places in the top of hunger, made by Nomura. Although Europe, as a whole is seriously threatened by food crisis, only Bulgaria ( 19th), Ukraine ( 20th), Latvia ( 23rd), Portugal ( 26th) and Russia ( 30th) are in the top 30 Nomura.
